FLORIS, Frans (b. ca. 1516, Antwerpen, d. 1570, Antwerpen) Banquet of the Gods 1550 Oil on panel, 150 x 198 cm Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten, Antwerp The sense of space is limited in his Banquet of the Gods by a group of figures in the foreground. Floris' abiding interest in the muscular system and in the representation of foreshortened figures, together with his preference for mythological scenes, made him a highly innovative and at the same time very successful artist in Antwerp.
