BOTTICELLI, Sandro (b. 1445, Firenze, d. 1510, Firenze) Portrait of Dante c. 1495 Tempera on canvas, 54,7 x 47,5 cm Private collection The striking profile of the poet, which has been drawn over in black, clearly contrasts with the light background. In accordance with traditional depictions, Dante is wearing a red cloak and red cap above a white bonnet.
