GHIRLANDAIO, Domenico (b. 1449, Firenze, d. 1494, Firenze) Study c. 1486 Ink on paper, 260 x 170 mm Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence The picture shows a study to the fresco Marriage of Mary executed in the Cappella Tornabuoni of the Santa Maria Novella in Florence. The high priest is not yet drawn in this preliminary study. It seems that Ghirlandaio tried drawing Mary in two different positions and then decided in favour of the second version on the left.
