BERRUGUETE, Alonso (b. 1488, Paredes de Nava, d. 1561, Valladolid) Madonna and Child with the Young St John 1510-15 Oil on panel Palazzo Vecchio, Florence Many pictures have been attributed to Alonso Berruguete's Italian period and much has been claimed for them. These claims, which situate the artist in the vanguard of early Mannerism, are often supported by the questionable attribution of eccentric, unclassical paintings, which seem to lack true stylistic unity.
